00:00:00 - Chapter 4 A Royal Visit

00:00:04 - Later that evening, King Duncan and his two sons, Malcolm and Donald Bain, arrived at

00:00:10 - Dunstain Castle with Banco and a young nobleman called McDuff.

00:00:17 - Lady Macbeth welcomed them all at the door with a bow.

00:00:20 - My gracious king, welcome to our home, she said.

00:00:24 - You honor us greatly by visiting our modest castle.

00:00:30 - King Duncan kissed her and smiled, worshiped my lord of Coudor, the noble Macbeth, he asked.

00:00:38 - I am sure he arrived before us.

00:00:41 - Beautiful lady Macbeth, his love for you made him right here, quicker than us, said the king, with a playful smile.

00:00:50 - Your Majesty is too kind," she replied, looking down modestly.

00:00:55 - Please allow me to show you to your rooms, and then to Great Dining Hall where we will hold our banquet.

00:01:05 - While Lady Macbeth was entertaining the king, Macbeth sat alone in his room, divided between excitement and shame.

00:01:16 - If I do this terrible act, he talks, I must do it quickly.

00:01:20 - There's no time to lose.

00:01:22 - He considers his position.

00:01:26 - But how can I murder the king of Scotland and in my own house?

00:01:31 - King Duncan is an honorable man.

00:01:34 - He trusts me, and if I succeed, the angel will make sure I'm condemned to hell forever.

00:01:41 - Macbeth shook his head, trying to make his horrible thoughts fly away.

00:01:46 - I can't let my ambition rule me.

00:01:48 - No.

00:01:49 - I won't do this terrible thing.

00:01:53 - Just then, Macbeth heard his way approaching and heard to tell her his decision.

00:01:58 - But instead of relief, Macbeth saw only anger and consternation on her face.

00:02:04 - Is this what you want to live like a coward all your life?

00:02:09 - Lady Macbeth, in a hostile voice. She had no conscience. I'll act like a man and a soldier, replied Macbeth.

00:02:18 - Firmly.

00:02:19 - If I do this terrible thing, I can't call myself either of those things.

00:02:28 - Why did you send me that letter then? She asked, angrily.

00:02:34 - Were you drunk? Perhaps you're drunk now, or perhaps you're just a coward.

00:02:41 - Show me you're a real man and let's do this together.

00:02:45 - Macbeth struggled between his conscience and his love for his wife.

00:02:49 - But if we fail, what then, he asked timidly.

00:02:53 - Keep your nerve, stick to the plan, and we won't fail, she cried.

00:02:58 - When Duncan is asleep, I'll bring his guards so much wine to drink that they won't know night from day.

00:03:06 - Then you'll go into the king's bedroom quietly and murder him with the daggers that the guards used to protect him.

00:03:19 - Macbeth stared at his wife, amazed at her courage and determination.

00:03:25 - In spite of all his doubts, he admired her murderous ambition.

00:03:30 - In that moment, he made his decision.

00:03:33 - His boy didn't tremble when he said,

00:03:35 - Very well, I will do the terrible thing.

00:03:39 - Go now.

00:03:40 - Compliment the king until he sleeps.

00:03:43 - Tomorrow belongs to us.

00:03:47 - After a magnificent dinner, King Duncan went to bed, and two guards stood outside the door.

00:03:53 - Lady Macbeth approached them after some time and offered them a lot of wine.

00:03:58 - Soon they were sleeping deeply against Duncan's door.

00:04:02 - Silently the ambitious lady returned to her room.

00:04:09 - Alone in his room, Macbeth suddenly became aware of a shadow on the wall shaped like a dagger.

00:04:17 - He jumped up in terror.

00:04:19 - What craziness is this? He whispered. Is this a really dagger? Is this a really dagger I see in front of me?

00:04:28 - His body trembled violently.

00:04:31 - No, no, he thought. The dagger is in my imagination, a result of my conversation with my wife.

00:04:39 - He looked up and the dagger seemed to move towards the door.

00:04:43 - You're asking me to leave this room and follow my ambition, he whispered.

00:04:47 - Well, let's go, Dagger, as he spoke the clock struck ten, and without a sound, Macbeth left the room and moved slowly towards the king's bedroom.

00:05:00 - In her bedroom, Lady Macbeth waited for her husband for what seemed an eternity.

00:05:06 - Finally, he entered the room.

00:05:08 - He was carrying the daggers, and his hands were red with Duncan's blood.

00:05:14 - I am a murderer," he whispered.

00:05:16 - I murdered the king in his sleep.

00:05:18 - Look at your hands," she cried.

00:05:20 - Why didn't you leave the daggers with the guard?

00:05:23 - Take them back and spread blood over them in, so they look responsible for the crime.

00:05:29 - Then wash your hands.

00:05:30 - They are full of Duncan's blood.

00:05:33 - I can't," whispered Magnet.

00:05:35 - I am too afraid to think about what I've done.

00:05:39 - Oh, for heaven's sake, give me the daggers," said Lady Macbeth, taking them from her husband's hands.

00:05:47 - I'll do it and wash my hands too."

00:05:49 - She moved towards the door and then turned round to stare at her husband.

00:05:55 - A little water is all we need to wash away the crown.

00:06:00 - She said, truthfully.

00:06:02 - She left the room with a decision step, with Macbeck staring at her in fear.
