00:01:45 - Antonio Anglés.

00:01:48 - His image is the face of evil.

00:01:52 - His name still causes fear and pain in equal parts.

00:01:57 - In a Spain exultant by the Olympic Games of Barcelona and the vapors of postmodernism,

00:02:05 - Antonio Anglés Martins became a myth, the new man in the sack, the ruthless murderer who tortured, raped and killed three girls in the Valencian population of Alcácer, on the night of November 13, 1992.

00:02:26 - Almost everything has been said about him, and almost always lies.

00:02:32 - Reality shows in search of audience, forensic doctors eager for publicity and journalists hungry for glory used the pain of the families of the girls and built the myth of a legendary murderer, with mysterious connections to power.

00:02:52 - Someone who supplied teenagers to satiate the vices of high-class degenerates.

00:02:58 - The idea, by force of repeating it, collapsed among millions of Spaniards.

00:03:04 - It was always preferable to think of a diabolical criminal with a great intellectual coefficient and influential friends.

00:03:14 - He resurrected class ghosts, helped mitigate pain and explain his actions.

00:03:22 - But the truth is that Anglés was known by his mother and brothers, but also by many of those who knew him, the neighbors of Catarroja, the social services who investigated his family for years, his fellow inmates.

00:03:40 - He is nothing more than a delinquent of limited intelligence, addicted to violent sex and vegetarian food, to which they have saved his survival instinct, some coincidences, the indiscretions of politicians and journalists and above all, the bureaucracy.

00:04:00 - And against him, his colleague Miguel Ricard and probably a third man ended the lives of María,

00:04:09 - Sire and Toño, without reasons or reparations.

00:04:13 - There were no videos of sex with minors, nor organized plots, only three girls who wanted to have fun on a trip in the afternoon and some delinquents who took her to their car.

00:04:26 - The reality, which is in the secret reports of the police and the civil guard that have followed the rest of Anglés during all these years, is much simpler and perhaps that is why it was so cruel and so difficult to follow, looking for a shadow.

00:04:48 - The waters of the Gulf of Vizcaya were calm that night, but the policeman was not.

00:04:54 - He had been hidden in the boat for four days, that huge English cargo ship to which he had boarded in the port of Lisbon on March 18, 1993.

00:05:08 - He was fed up of sleeping among containers and thought that they were looking for him to kill three prostitutes in Lisbon.

00:05:16 - He was also fed up with Gonçalves, that sailor of assholes and junkies.

00:05:22 - So he boarded that ship, the City of Plymouth, despite the fact that he did not know what his destiny was.

00:05:31 - The next night he had stopped in another Portuguese port and then, on March 23, in Bilbao.

00:05:38 - He spent a night there.

00:05:40 - The policeman, perhaps smiling, perhaps thinking of all the policemen who were looking for him on the ground, the same who had not been able to catch him in his house, in that abandoned train station, in a town in Cuenca or in Madrid.

00:05:56 - Or perhaps thinking of the girls and how they screamed while they tortured them.

00:06:01 - He had been doing that for four months.

00:06:04 - The policeman knew that his friend, Miguel Ricard, had fallen into the hands of the Civil Guard.

00:06:10 - But the blond man was not very smart.

00:06:13 - He would get out of this.

00:06:16 - He would go to Mexico or, if not, to Brazil, where his uncle and cousin lived.

00:06:22 - After all, he was born in Sao Paulo.

00:06:26 - He was hungry. He had to move.

00:06:29 - But he saw too many sailors on deck, too many even at night.

00:06:35 - One of them, Joe Hanham, was on guard.

00:06:38 - It was 2.50 a.m.

00:06:41 - The sea was calm when he saw the policeman on deck.

00:06:46 - Then he stopped him and took him to see the count.

00:06:51 - The count ordered that they lock him in a chamber.

00:06:55 - But the policeman was not there for a long time.

00:06:58 - The count would later tell the Spanish police that they had moved to the United Kingdom.

00:07:07 - We believe that he escaped through the window of the chamber because there were two locks on the door and he needed a key to open it.

00:07:16 - The policeman jumped out of the window, unleashed a motorboat called Gemini, written on one side.

00:07:25 - He lowered it into the sea and tried to start the engine.

00:07:28 - It could not be so difficult, especially if a sailor helped him in exchange for money.

00:07:35 - No more escaping from the town.

00:07:38 - Ah, that asshole who announced on the radio that they had already found the corpses and that now the Civil Guard was going for the murderers, that they already had them.

00:07:49 - What was his name?

00:07:51 - As soon as he heard that, he knew that he had to be alert.

00:07:55 - He was already in the water, but the engine did not start.

00:07:59 - So a couple of hours passed, cold and cold, but they were already coming for him.

00:08:05 - Someone had warned them on the radio.

00:08:09 - A helicopter had seen him.

00:08:12 - Maybe it would be better this way.

00:08:14 - He was cold, he was soaked, and he could not see the ground anywhere.

00:08:20 - They got him on the boat again and another Englishman approached him.

00:08:24 - The policeman never knew, but his name was Kevin McBride and he was the second officer of the City of Plymouth.

00:08:34 - They locked him up again in the second locker and this time a sailor came to watch him every hour.

00:08:41 - When they brought him food, no one was able to eat the tremendous sausages that the cook Alberto Sisi prepared.

00:08:52 - The second officer spoke to the policeman.

00:08:55 - I didn't like it.

00:08:57 - I wouldn't have liked to be left alone with him.

00:09:01 - I would tell later without knowing that I had been with one of the most wanted murderers in the world, marked with the maximum priority red code on the computers of the Interpol.

00:09:14 - Locked up again.

00:09:16 - They took the papers from him, some money, he didn't care.

00:09:21 - He had much more in the lining of his jacket, because he had taken two million pesetas that his mother had managed to get by asking for a loan, although he had to take the money from his mother in full.

00:09:37 - Then another guy arrived, who introduced himself as Captain Kennedy.

00:09:42 - He took the papers from him and interrogated him.

00:09:46 - Where did you think you were going?

00:09:48 - To Mexico, the policeman replied.

00:09:50 - The captain left, while looking at the papers where it said that the policeman was called

00:09:56 - Carlos Joaquín Carballo and he hoped that guy wouldn't give him any more problems.

00:10:03 - The ship was approaching to sink.

00:10:06 - On March 25, 1993, when the port was touched, the policeman was no longer there.

00:10:13 - He had to push a hanger under the door handle and remove the wooden block, explained the countermaster Jones.

00:10:23 - The sea currents were studied and new dead were sought in other seas.

00:10:28 - Their bones and even their DNA were analyzed.

00:10:31 - He was none of them.

00:10:33 - The agents of the Civil Guard thought, and not without pain, that the policeman had arrived on land, because although the crew of the ship had gotten rid of him to keep his money, they could have made up the story or made up a plot.

00:10:51 - The policeman had attacked a sailor.

00:10:54 - There was no choice but to defend himself, and they would surely get out unpunished.

00:11:00 - That's how they had done it in Tata.

00:11:02 - If they told that story, the case would be closed.

00:11:07 - There would be no reprisals.

00:11:09 - In fact, they would be popular in Spain.

00:11:12 - And the story of the tattooed policeman would have ended in that port of Dublin.

00:11:19 - But very close to the pier appeared a floater from the City of Plymouth.

00:11:25 - A few days later, the waitress of a supermarket located in one of the toughest neighborhoods of Dublin explained to the police officers of Scotland Yard that she had served Anglaise herself.

00:11:37 - She had sold her cans of sardines and had asked her if she wanted anything else, but he had answered, as united, and had left.

00:11:47 - No charge.

00:11:49 - Anglaise is a vegetarian.

00:11:51 - The British police suspect that the policeman took from Dublin one of the three floaters that depart every hour towards the port of Liverpool in England.

00:12:02 - They therefore suspect that the policeman had bribed one of the sailors to allow him to jump near the pier, because from the beginning the policeman, Antonio Anglaise, wanted to get to England.

00:12:16 - There he had a colleague,

00:12:18 - Enrique Miguel Sanz, a.k.a. El Bimbo.

00:12:23 - It had been three years since El Bimbo had been condemned in Valencia for some robberies, but he fled, and since then he lived peacefully in London.

00:12:33 - There, the search and capture order of Spanish justice did not arrive.

00:12:38 - In London, El Bimbo would give him a place to rest, and then he would go to America.

00:12:45 - In Spain, his companion,

00:12:47 - Miguel Ricard, made contradictory statements to the Civil Guard.

00:12:53 - He confessed the crimes, then said he had been tortured, or that the night of the crime he spent in jail or with his ex-boyfriend.

00:13:02 - Only Anglaise and Ricard knew what happened on the fateful night of November 13, 1992.

00:13:11 - It was Friday, and the two, perhaps accompanied by a third person, were traveling to the Cologne disco, on the outskirts of the town of Alcázar.

00:13:22 - Ricard was driving his Opel Corsa.

00:13:25 - Antonio had been released for several months and had a gun on his waist, after not returning to jail taking advantage of a weekend permit.

00:13:35 - His ego had grown in all those months of impunity.

00:13:39 - At first he hid in the mountains, then he went down to sleep in his old house in Catarroja, and finally he even wandered through the nearby towns.

00:13:50 - No one seemed to look for him, not even after killing them, when the televisions and hysteria reached the town.

00:13:58 - But everything changed when two beekeepers, in search of bees, found the corpses of the girls in a pit dug in the place known as La Romana, near Tours.

00:14:13 - Since then he ran away, and ran away alert, like a harassed animal.

00:14:19 - That afternoon, almost eight o'clock,

00:14:23 - Rubio and I, looking for Juanada, in Ricard's Opel Corsa, and I, as a co-pilot, overtook those three girls who were pointing.

00:14:33 - Stop, Rubio, here's what we've been looking for.

00:14:38 - Lower the window.

00:14:40 - Are you going to Colón?

00:14:42 - They said yes.

00:14:44 - They're all whores.

00:14:46 - Ricard had told them.

00:14:48 - All whores.

00:14:50 - One day I'm going to bust one.

00:14:52 - I got off and let them get in the car.

00:14:56 - The three of them sat in the back.

00:14:58 - The club was nearby.

00:15:00 - But I told Rubio to keep going.

00:15:04 - They started screaming.

00:15:06 - I had no choice but to shoot.

00:15:10 - A star of the ninth grade.

00:15:12 - One of them kept screaming.

00:15:14 - I turned around and shot her in the mouth.

00:15:18 - Then I shot the others.

00:15:20 - They cried and shut up.

00:15:24 - I took out some strings and tied the first two to keep the third one still.

00:15:30 - I put on the gauze I was wearing to cover my tattoos.

00:15:34 - Reconstruction of the events by Anglès and Ricard based on the confession of Ricard and the data of the summary of the case.

00:15:42 - The search of Antonio Anglès around the world was called and still is called

00:15:52 - Operation Desirada for what it means.

00:15:56 - But also because it was called one of the tortured and murdered girls,

00:16:02 - Desiree.

00:16:04 - The identity, María Desirada Hernández, 15 years old, is in one of the folders of the case kept by the agents of the Central Operative Unit, the UCO, of the Civil Guard.

00:16:18 - But in 1992 it was a unit that had just been created to fight the new crimes of a modern society, but with a great shortage of means and without half of the squad detained.

00:16:36 - During all these years, agents of the UCO have searched

00:16:40 - Anglès in the Dominican Republic, in Venezuela, in a cave on the outskirts of Valencia, in the United Kingdom, on the border of Badajoz with Portugal, in São Paulo,

00:16:52 - Uruguay, in France, Australia, in a small town of La Coruña.

00:16:58 - They have heard witnesses say that they have not seen him dead.

00:17:02 - They have even been told that he knew where he was buried.

00:17:06 - Prisoners of almost all the Spanish prisons and of some foreigners offered their testimony about the whereabouts of Sugar, one of Anglès's alias.

00:17:18 - In exchange, of course, for a reduction of penalty or a weekend permit.

00:17:24 - Some self-included in television programs to retract later after having collected the checks that generously granted the spaces of some prisons.

00:17:38 - Witnesses from all over Spain said they saw the girls all over the world, going out to parties or being kidnapped in some bars.

00:17:50 - Still in 1996, a man from Lleida sent the Civil Guard a photograph of a guy eating in a restaurant.

00:18:00 - He claimed he was Antonio Anglès.

00:18:02 - The photo did not look like anything.

00:18:04 - Of the hundreds of stories they have heard, the Civil Guards only give credibility to one man.

00:18:12 - His name is Luis Ramón.

00:18:14 - He was 40 years old and was a Cuban industrialist married to a Spanish citizen who lived in Miami when that cop jumped in front of his house.

00:18:26 - In February 1994, more than a year after

00:18:30 - Anglès' disappearance in Ireland,

00:18:32 - Luis Ramón drove his wife's car with a Spanish flag sticker on the back.

00:18:40 - West Flagger Street, one of the main streets in Miami.

00:18:44 - When he reached a gas station in Amoco, on the corner of Avenue 102, very close to a shopping center called Managua, he stopped and observed how some Hispanics from Manacatadura were trampling around the area.

00:19:02 - One of them, with a tattoo on each arm, approached him and asked,

00:19:08 - Are you Spanish?

00:19:10 - Can you give me a job?

00:19:12 - Luis Ramón replied,

00:19:14 - No, sorry.

00:19:16 - My wife is Spanish, but I am Cuban,

00:19:20 - The witness would later explain to the Civil Guard that he felt sorry for that immigrant from Macrado and that he tried to help him.

00:19:28 - He suggested that he approach the area of the Spaniards in Miami.

00:19:34 - I told him that on 8th Street, knowing that he was Spanish, they would give him a job as a waiter or as a salesman, but the immigrant did not want to go.

00:19:44 - He made the excuse that the immigration police would give him a job and said goodbye to his new friend.

00:19:52 - Between February and May 1994, the future witness toured the area dozens of times and stopped three more times at the gas station.

00:20:04 - There he met again with the tattooed immigrant and they spoke again.

00:20:10 - He told me that he had arrived almost a year ago in a boat to New York and that now he was alone and that from there he had come by bus to Miami.

00:20:22 - The mysterious Spaniard confessed to his new friend that he could not go to the Spanish embassy or to his family in Spain.

00:20:34 - He preferred to starve before returning to Spain.

00:20:38 - His interlocutor then argued that the man was fleeing from something very serious.

00:20:44 - I asked him if in your country, in your family they can help you.

00:20:50 - You have something very serious pending, don't you?

00:20:52 - The immigrant did not answer him, not even when Luis offered him money to pay for the plane ticket to Spain.

00:21:00 - He defended himself.

00:21:02 - He gave me the impression that he had left something serious in Spain.

00:21:06 - So I told my wife.

00:21:08 - Luis Ramón saw the Spanish immigrant in May 1994.

00:21:16 - They had coffee in a very close bar and he announced to him that he had decided to leave for Mexico or Brazil.

00:21:26 - The Spanish was thinner.

00:21:28 - Luis then asked him to wait because he had an appointment with his wife.

00:21:34 - She was Spanish and could help him.

00:21:36 - Surely there was a solution among all.

00:21:40 - He returned to the cafeteria.

00:21:42 - The mysterious Spanish was no longer there.

00:21:46 - The gauze of the tattoos, the gun, the girls crying, the blond who takes the car to Catadao.

00:21:56 - I, who slept there many nights when I left prison.

00:22:02 - I tell him that I threw on the dirt road to the right.

00:22:06 - We arrived at the house of the Roman woman.

00:22:10 - We took her out of the car.

00:22:12 - We go up.

00:22:14 - There is a mat.

00:22:16 - We tie two of them in a wooden post.

00:22:20 - They scream.

00:22:22 - I give them a lock.

00:22:24 - I go for the other one.

00:22:26 - I throw her on the mat.

00:22:28 - When we finish with her, we tie her.

00:22:32 - Then we take another one.

00:22:34 - The same thing is resisted.

00:22:36 - We go to buy some sandwiches to the town to continue the party.

00:22:40 - We go to Catadao.

00:22:42 - In July 1994, two months after the meeting in Miami,

00:22:48 - Luis Ramón and his wife returned to Spain.

00:22:52 - At the Santander airport some relatives were waiting for them.

00:22:56 - But before arriving at their meeting, the man was stuck looking at a sign hanging on the wall.

00:23:04 - The immigrant with whom he had been in Miami was the murderer of the three girls.

00:23:10 - His name was Antonio and he could not return to Spain.

00:23:14 - With the certainty of having met that criminal, the man went to the neighborhood of the nearest Civil Guard, the one in Cayón, Cantabria, to tell his story and to recognize him as Antonio Anglés with a 70% chance to his friend, the mayor of Miami.

00:23:34 - The physical coincidence of the dates, the identical tattoos on the arms, the accent, the pending account with the Spanish justice and the certainty of the testimony of Luis Ramón, who not only saw but also spoke four times with the most wanted man in Spain, have made of his testimony the reason that Antonio Anglés is still wanted.

00:23:56 - The agents of the unit of the Civil Guard who arrested him still believe that he was telling the truth, and therefore that very possibly that immigrant was

00:24:08 - Antonio Anglés Martínez, the policeman of the City of Primal, the murderer of the girls of Alcázar.

00:24:16 - Through a policeman who did the link work in the North American embassy, they asked for the collaboration of the United States, since the area where Anglés met and smuggled small cocaine traffickers.

00:24:32 - The North American government entrusted the management to the DEA, but the mythical federal agents did not honor their legend.

00:24:42 - The report that the DEA sent back to his Spanish colleagues in November 1994, more than three months after the request for collaboration, was an example of routine work.

00:24:56 - The agents went to the area where the most wanted man of Spain could be, they took pictures of a few camels, none remotely similar to Anglés, and they took license plates of some cars, as if they were looking for a small cocaine seller.

00:25:14 - It was not that the agents bothered to question any neighbor, nor that they pressed a little the doors to the traffickers in that area to see if they remembered that Spanish.

00:25:28 - After that first reverse, a new fact made the investigators set the track in the United States.

00:25:36 - The phones of the Anglés family were being closely watched.

00:25:40 - No message, only that message in the automatic responder for his sister the same day they were going to arrest him.

00:25:50 - When Anglés had heard on the radio that they had found three corpses that could be those of the missing girls, he knew he was cornered and could not return to his house, which prevented him from being arrested.

00:26:04 - Because Anglés never escaped through the window of his fourth floor while the civil guards arrived. What happened was that the agents found the social security flyer on behalf of his brother in the pit with the corpses of the girls and went immediately to the house of the Anglés.

00:26:24 - In the littering, a local politician leaked the news.

00:26:30 - The murderers were going to be arrested and the journalists made loud voices to alert them.

00:26:36 - Ricard, who had just bought oranges, did not hear the radio nor saw the television, so he came confident to see his friend and was arrested.

00:26:48 - Meanwhile, when the civil guards registered the home of the Anglés, only the telephone that Anglés' sister had in the room rang.

00:26:58 - The guards ordered that no one pick it up.

00:27:02 - They let the automatic answering machine jump.

00:27:06 - Kenny, I'm Rubén.

00:27:08 - If the blond goes, you tell him to take the sleeping bags, the hair and the milk and to go where the plate and the handle of the motorcycle.

00:27:20 - Since that day, the escape nothing.

00:27:26 - But in November 1995, the investigators detected a mysterious call made from the house of the Anglés to a telephone of the State of California.

00:27:38 - The Anglés only have a family in Brazil, no known in the United States, and the excuse that Kenny put,

00:27:46 - Antonio's sister, was that he called

00:27:50 - California to enhance his incipient career as a model actress.

00:27:54 - It was incredible for the agents.

00:27:56 - The murderer was still a shady man now from the other side of the ocean.

00:28:04 - We came back with the sandwiches.

00:28:06 - Two were half-dead, the other was crying.

00:28:12 - They had scratched the wall to escape.

00:28:16 - We had dinner.

00:28:18 - We untied the third one.

00:28:20 - She resisted a lot.

00:28:22 - The blond holds her legs.

00:28:26 - I use the rake.

00:28:28 - I use the knife.

00:28:30 - It takes me almost two hours to take it.

00:28:34 - We tie her up again and leave her there with the others.

00:28:38 - We are exhausted.

00:28:40 - We go to sleep.

00:28:42 - Two months later, from the California runway, the agents who investigated the case received a new whistle.

00:28:50 - Someone very similar,

00:28:52 - Antonio Anglés, had entered as a crew member of a ship that arrived at the port of Montevideo,

00:28:58 - Uruguay, in January 1996.

00:29:00 - Who claimed to have that information was a Spanish sailor named Enrique Monleón.

00:29:06 - On this occasion, the agents of the Central Operational Unit traveled to Uruguay.

00:29:12 - They would do it up to four times, between 1996 and 1997.

00:29:18 - On the first trip, everything seemed to go well.

00:29:22 - The Spanish sailor claimed that one night he had visited a club in Montevideo called Vicos.

00:29:30 - Speaking with the girls, they told him that a Spanish named Anglés, a murderer, had slept with one of the prostitutes who worked in another club in the area, called Bonanza.

00:29:42 - The owner of that club knows all the story, they told Monleón.

00:29:48 - The Spanish criminal would have arrived in Uruguay on a ship on February 26, 1996.

00:29:54 - The Spanish agents in Uruguay began the hunt for the murderer of Alcázar.

00:30:00 - They asked the authorities, through a request, for the fingerprints of Anglés with those of all his criminals signed or in prison on that date.

00:30:10 - Nothing.

00:30:12 - They collected the list of all the ships and their crews that arrived in Montevideo on those dates.

00:30:22 - The Pescanova, the Jacqueline, the Chichatousa, hundreds of ships, thousands of sailors, neither Partera, nor Romero, nor Rubén César Lago, nor Rubén Scarlini.

00:30:38 - All the names that the Spanish murderer used to hide.

00:30:44 - In the summer of 1996, on a new trip, the civil guards thought they were close.

00:30:52 - They pretended to be journalists of a Spanish television network.

00:30:56 - A taxi driver from Montevideo, named Eduardo Rodríguez, had seen Anglés at the club in Cus.

00:31:04 - He recognized the photograph of the murderer of Alcácer and assured that two girls who were doing the street on Avenida Italia also knew him.

00:31:16 - The civil guards interviewed them, showed them the photo, asked them about the tattoos.

00:31:22 - It was him.

00:31:24 - It was a guy who lived with another of the girls, and the Uruguayan police located that fugitive living in Punta del Este, where the alleged Englishman ran a pizzeria.

00:31:38 - Uruguayan police broke into apartment 207 of the Ilavello building and arrested the Uruguayan

00:31:48 - Andrea Silva and her husband, who was an Italian tattooed named Fabrizio Giovannoni.

00:31:54 - Back in Montevideo, an information provided by a CECID agent, the Spanish intelligence service, brought new hopes.

00:32:04 - His confidant worked for the Uruguayan intelligence services under the code name

00:32:12 - Carlos.

00:32:14 - The Spanish spy contacted the civil guards, they interviewed in Montevideo.

00:32:20 - Surely Carlos expected a juicy reward for the information, so he exploited himself.

00:32:28 - The Englishman is here.

00:32:30 - He arrived by boat in January.

00:32:32 - He sells cocaine in the port area, but he doesn't take drugs.

00:32:36 - He wears a vest and a cap.

00:32:38 - Carlos insisted to the Spanish guards that his informants gave him a 95% security, that he was a serious agent and that they had been working for him for years.

00:32:52 - The bells didn't ring.

00:32:54 - All of them, including the new Minister of Interior

00:32:58 - Jaime Mayor Oreja, thought he was close, but they didn't want to get excited.

00:33:04 - They don't let us sleep.

00:33:06 - They cry and make noises.

00:33:10 - I wake up.

00:33:12 - I know what to do.

00:33:14 - I wasn't going to go through the same thing again as with that whore.

00:33:20 - I beat her.

00:33:22 - I beat her at home when we lived in Catarroga.

00:33:26 - But my mother and my brothers were there, and in the end I let her go.

00:33:32 - I let her go, and the whore reported me.

00:33:36 - I spent six years in jail.

00:33:38 - They don't let me sleep.

00:33:40 - I wake up.

00:33:42 - I grab a pick and a hoe.

00:33:44 - Cabo,

00:33:46 - I tell the blond man we untie them and we let them out.

00:33:52 - They can hardly walk, but they stop crying.

00:33:56 - They think they're going home.

00:33:58 - It couldn't have been in Uruguay that summer, and everything was ready.

00:34:04 - With the police's collaboration from that country, civil guards set up a secret operation.

00:34:10 - New confidences of prostitutes placed Angles as a tenant in a hotel on Las Flores Street.

00:34:18 - The civil guards went there and knew that the man had moved to the Santa Marina Hotel.

00:34:26 - But the receptionist and the owners of Spanish origin and who knew the Alcácer crime recognized their guest as the same person that the Spanish guards showed them in a photomontage of Angles with a comb and a earring.

00:34:44 - The guards then looked for that man's girlfriend,

00:34:48 - María Felicia Márquez, and they thought they were closer than ever.

00:34:54 - But the woman confirmed that her boyfriend, very similar to Angles, was called Hilario Filippo González.

00:35:02 - Upon his return to Spain, the guards verified that Angles' double had been arrested when he tried to introduce cocaine

00:35:12 - Despite this reverse,

00:35:14 - Uruguay has never been ruled out as a refuge for Angles.

00:35:18 - Interpol has searched there for the Alcácer murderer on several occasions, and even a local newspaper published the name and photo of Angles among the 10 criminals, the Nazi Alois Brunner and others, who could be hidden in the Punta del Este area.

00:35:40 - We go to the hole.

00:35:42 - It's uphill, and one can't walk.

00:35:46 - Rubio and I put her in the mouth and lift her up.

00:35:52 - Then the others.

00:35:54 - They see the pit and start screaming that we don't kill them.

00:36:00 - I put two stones in a T-shirt and give them to her.

00:36:06 - I stick the knife and it falls.

00:36:10 - I make the others kneel on the ground.

00:36:14 - I take out the gun.

00:36:16 - It snaps.

00:36:18 - They cry.

00:36:20 - I put it back on.

00:36:22 - One, two, three, on the head.

00:36:26 - I pick up the snaps.

00:36:28 - We dress them.

00:36:30 - We throw them in the hole and I throw them to the ground.

00:36:34 - Rubio cleans the car.

00:36:36 - We go back home.

00:36:38 - We change and we put the dirty clothes in a bag.

00:36:44 - We leave.

00:36:46 - The trail of Brazil was always present for the investigators.

00:36:50 - Anglès had two direct relatives there.

00:36:52 - His uncle Juan Luis Anglès lived in Constantino de Moura Baptista street, in a populous neighborhood of the immense city of Sao Paulo.

00:37:02 - And also his cousin Alfredo Anglès lived in that city, although his current whereabouts are unknown.

00:37:10 - The first investigation about

00:37:12 - Anglès' possible stay in Sao Paulo took place in 1996.

00:37:16 - On March 6 of that year, civil guard agents traveled to Pelillo Oleiros, a small town in the province of La Coluña.

00:37:26 - They wanted to talk to Ivani Falcone, a Brazilian woman who had called a TV program saying that she had information about Anglès.

00:37:38 - The woman received the agents and explained to them that in the carnivals of 1995

00:37:44 - I was in Playa Grande, an area of Sao Paulo, with my six-year-old son.

00:37:50 - A man approached me to flirt.

00:37:52 - I went home and when I turned around to clean my feet from the sand on the porch, there he was.

00:37:58 - He had followed us.

00:38:00 - The woman identified Antonio Anglès as the flirt who had followed her in that carnival.

00:38:08 - The agents, however, did not give much credibility to that testimony, although they also checked it without results.

00:38:16 - Brazil reappeared in Antonio Anglès' search in a note that Interpol sent to the Spanish police in 1997.

00:38:24 - In it, it was assured that a confidant said that he had seen Antonio Anglès in a private island located very close to Sao Paulo.

00:38:34 - The information stated that Suga, who wore a wig and bra, had undergone aesthetic surgery to remove the tattoos from the arms that still had the marks of the scars as a result of the operation, but this information was not true either.

00:38:50 - We went to a merchant in Buñol and washed the clothes.

00:38:54 - We went home.

00:38:56 - There is no crime without corpses.

00:38:58 - The televisions arrived, they were looking for the girls, they said they had seen them in Navarra, in Madrid.

00:39:06 - I was calm.

00:39:08 - I went to live in Alborache for a season, then I returned home, to Catarroja.

00:39:16 - I bought in the supermarket and went out with the blond.

00:39:20 - In December, the blond was put in jail for stealing a car.

00:39:24 - He did not sing.

00:39:26 - I went down to Benetuzer to fix my hair, but in January, some farmers found them.

00:39:34 - They said on the radio that there were suspects, that they were close.

00:39:40 - I called home and said that they would not open if I went to the Civil Guard, that they had not seen me.

00:39:48 - I took the money and escaped.

00:39:50 - In 1997,

00:39:52 - Anglès had been missing for four years.

00:39:54 - In the Valencia hearing, the trial against his accomplice

00:39:58 - Miguel Ricard was held.

00:40:00 - Paradoxically, and perhaps moved by the fascination of the missing assassin, some media, even the father of one of the murdered girls, described then Ricard as a poor bastard, a puppet at the service of Anglès and others.

00:40:18 - The trial became a terrorist attack.

00:40:22 - Ricard, the father of a girl, had been intimate with Anglès a year before the crimes, with Antonio and another Anglès,

00:40:30 - Mauricio.

00:40:32 - He had robbed some banks in the neighborhood.

00:40:36 - He also sold drugs at the door of a professional training institute where Miriam, one of the victims, was studying.

00:40:44 - And he is anything but innocent in this story.

00:40:48 - It is said that Ricard had been in touch with Anglès for several months, but he did not participate, although he did not denounce him either, due to the fear that provoked his accomplice.

00:41:00 - The truth is that Ricard at least raped one of the girls and collaborated in the torture of the three.

00:41:08 - And he never helped in the investigations since he was arrested at the door of the house of the Anglès when he arrived with a bag of oranges where he had served 20 days for stealing a car two weeks after the murderers.

00:41:22 - At first he refused to have anything to do with the story.

00:41:26 - The civil guards remember how they showed him the photos of the dead girls in front of his silence and his smile.

00:41:34 - That day, the day of the crime, he told them cold-bloodedly

00:41:38 - I was in the prison Modelo de Valencia.

00:41:40 - Check it out.

00:41:42 - The agents sank when an official told them by phone that it was true, but a civil guard did not trust the computers and went to the prison that morning to check the first-hand data.

00:41:54 - There was a mistake.

00:41:56 - Ricard was free the night of the murders.

00:42:00 - Then, at the last hour of the night of January 28, 1993, the agents showed him a glove they had found at the crime scene where they had taken him.

00:42:14 - Is it yours?

00:42:16 - He said yes.

00:42:18 - They explained that they had found him next to the girls' corpses.

00:42:22 - He collapsed.

00:42:24 - I did not kill them.

00:42:26 - It was Antonio.

00:42:28 - He had to interrupt the interrogation and call a lawyer.

00:42:32 - He was arrested.

00:42:34 - In a nearby room was Enrique Anglés, who was also arrested that night because the social security flyer had his name on it.

00:42:42 - But Enrique did not know anything and was released.

00:42:46 - When he was leaving,

00:42:48 - Ricard asked him to warn Antonio and tell him to leave.

00:42:52 - Ricard's first statement was brutal because of his cynicism.

00:42:56 - He assured that he had sexual relations with Desiree, but he said that the girl felt enchanted.

00:43:02 - Then he changed his confessions and gave all kinds of details about the murderers, but he did not confess.

00:43:10 - Then he wrote a threatening letter to Anglés' mother, another character, not innocent, who even came to declare to the newspaper Levante that one of the murdered girls had gone to eat at her house and that she had already been raped by Ricard.

00:43:28 - He asked her 200,000 pesetas not to reveal that she and her son Mauricio knew where Antonio was living after his escape from Spain.

00:43:40 - Meanwhile, Ricard continued to pretend to be the innocent victim.

00:43:44 - He fed the legends about Anglés to some powerful friends and, incidentally, he charged thousands of pesetas for the interviews granted.

00:43:54 - On January 28, 1993, when Ricard had already sung and hundreds of civil guards and police were looking for his friend throughout the province of Valencia,

00:44:04 - Antonio Anglés had the cold blood to enter a hairdresser of the Gran Vía de Fernando el Católico in the capital and remove the blond dye that made him too famous.

00:44:16 - He paid 3,500 pesetas and left quietly after an hour of chatting.

00:44:22 - He was already wearing shiny brown hair.

00:44:26 - He went to the station and took a train to Manises.

00:44:30 - You get out of there.

00:44:32 - I arrived walking along a train track to Vilamarchan.

00:44:38 - In the old station some gypsies had camped.

00:44:42 - I paid the oldest to get me a car.

00:44:46 - I told him that at nine

00:44:48 - I would come back for him.

00:44:50 - My brother Mauri was walking around the town.

00:44:54 - There they locked me up.

00:44:56 - Indeed, the civil guard was very close to him.

00:45:00 - They had sent to call his brother Roberto Anglés, to whom, armed with a tie and a typewriter, they made believe that he was the judge and the judicial secretary.

00:45:12 - Asking for his brother,

00:45:14 - Roberto indicated that his favorite hideout was Vilamarchan.

00:45:18 - From there, groups of agents took over the town.

00:45:22 - There must have been 500 guys to kill me, but the journalists saved me.

00:45:28 - I was in the town.

00:45:30 - My brother Mauri saw a lot of cameras.

00:45:34 - I ran away.

00:45:36 - I grabbed a truck.

00:45:38 - Goodbye Valencia.

00:45:40 - It was his constant escapes that fueled the legend that someone had protected him.

00:45:48 - A myth that came to light during the trial in which his friend and accomplice was sentenced to 170 years in prison.

00:45:58 - During those days of 1997, a shocking episode even more confused the Spanish society.

00:46:06 - El Diario Ya, which ended its decades of information work in the hands of the lawyer

00:46:14 - Emilio Rodríguez Menéndez, published a photograph of a young man who from somewhere in the world claimed to be Antonio Anglés and confessed his crimes.

00:46:24 - The message even showed the fingerprints of the criminal as proof that what was said was true.

00:46:32 - In the photograph some train tracks were seen as well as the agents turned to Aurora Moya, then director of FEBE, who put them in contact with a true fan of the tracks.

00:46:46 - A retired man who only by looking at the photo was able to say that he was in the city of Buenos Aires, although he apologized to the agents for not being able to say exactly what the area was.

00:47:00 - Civil Guard agents then moved to Buenos Aires following that track.

00:47:06 - There they found, in a low house and with spent bricks, an Argentine young man aspiring to a model called Walter Fabián Medina.

00:47:18 - Mr. Emilio said that he had paid 6,000 pesetas to pose for a casting.

00:47:24 - When the agents informed him that he had been made to pass by the most wanted Spanish criminal, the man asked for a mate to relax.

00:47:34 - As for the fingerprints, the story was simple.

00:47:38 - Rodríguez Menéndez, a man with excellent contacts in some police circles, in a tribute dinner to the General of the Civil Guard,

00:47:48 - Enrique Rodríguez Galindo, appeared at the presidential table.

00:47:52 - He reported that he had an excellent clue about English and offered to collaborate in his arrest.

00:48:00 - To verify that that Argentine was actually the murderer of Cáceres,

00:48:06 - Mr. Emilio needed the fingerprints of the English police record.

00:48:10 - So the fingerprints he published in his newspaper were indeed English.

00:48:16 - They had been given by civil servants of the Ministry of the Interior.

00:48:22 - The Civil Guards lost their time with that editing and the newspaper ended up disappearing.

00:48:30 - They saw me.

00:48:32 - I have to get out of the truck.

00:48:34 - I'm walking.

00:48:36 - One kilometre down the road.

00:48:38 - There's an old man working on some oranges.

00:48:42 - I put the knife in his neck.

00:48:44 - He takes me to the highway.

00:48:46 - We stop at a gas station.

00:48:48 - He gives me 2,000 pelas.

00:48:50 - Nobody notices anything.

00:48:52 - The old man goes crazy.

00:48:54 - I sit down in front of him.

00:48:56 - We get to my corner.

00:48:58 - I get out.

00:49:00 - I tell the old man that if I go with the story to the Civil Guard,

00:49:06 - I'll go back to his house and kill him.

00:49:08 - I tell him, I'm English, the murderer of the girls.

00:49:12 - He goes back to his house.

00:49:14 - Terrified, the man took several days to go to the Civil Guard, which gave time again for Anglès to continue his search.

00:49:24 - At the same time, a new clue had arrived about the whereabouts of Azukiki, another of his nicknames.

00:49:34 - A confidant of the Interpol in the Dominican Republic assured that Anglès had been living there

00:49:40 - According to the information, a Spanish man whose features coincided with those of the murderer of Alcácer had bought a small hut next to the sea in a place known as Bergentin, very close to the town of Playa Dorada, one of the main tourist centers of the country.

00:50:02 - The relatives called the man the Englishman and paid 200,000 pesetas but a simple check was enough to see that the Englishman was not his.

00:50:14 - The clues about Anglès were still coming.

00:50:18 - In Australia, someone said he had seen him in the port of Canberra, also on the island of Cozumel, a paradisiacal place located opposite Mexico.

00:50:28 - In November 2000, a North American tourist read in the Reader's Digest a report on the most wanted criminals.

00:50:36 - Among them was, of course,

00:50:38 - Antonio Anglès Martín.

00:50:40 - The woman almost suffered a shock when she believed she had seen Anglès when she disembarked from the ferry that took her from Playa del Carmen to Cozumel.

00:50:52 - She notified the Mexican police that she had set up an emergency operation with maximum security.

00:50:58 - It would be a great blow to the country and to its armed forces that Anglès was detained there.

00:51:04 - Finally, they identified the man indicated by the tourist.

00:51:08 - Indeed, he had tattoos on his arms and the description coincided.

00:51:14 - Several police officers jumped on him and detained him in a small square on the island.

00:51:20 - The detainee turned out to be a Spanish tourist, but he was not Anglès.

00:51:24 - Once again, the shadow of Alcácer is seen at some point in Latin America.

00:51:32 - The old man behaved.

00:51:34 - Nobody bothered me and I arrived in Madrid, then in Lisbon, and now on the ship.

00:51:42 - It was not so difficult, no more than the army.

00:51:46 - They wanted me to join the militia, so when I got to the barracks,

00:51:50 - I took a rope and did as if I wanted to hang myself.

00:51:54 - They sent me home.

00:51:56 - What a bunch of assholes!

00:51:58 - I went to jail.

00:52:00 - I had to work.

00:52:02 - I spent two years as an electrician.

00:52:04 - They called me Chispas.

00:52:06 - So, until they gave me my first weekend permit and a group of prisoners set up a riot.

00:52:16 - They thought I was not going to return, but I returned in Christ.

00:52:20 - I knew that this way they would give me more permits and the next one would be the good one.

00:52:28 - While the Civil Guard was looking for all these living Englishmen, the police were trying to find their bodies.

00:52:38 - The sea currents of the Irish area were analyzed and one by one all the human remains that reached the coast in the following months were checked.

00:52:48 - Of all of them, only a few bones remained unidentified, those that were found on the Irish beach of Cor.

shortly after the arrival of the ship to Dublin with the policeman on board.

00:53:00 - Once again, all the possibilities were exhausted.

00:53:04 - The remains were sent to Spain and DNA tests were analyzed, comparing their genetic material with that of Neusa Martins, the mother of Anglès.

00:53:16 - Tests were made on two occasions, but both were negative.

00:53:20 - Anglès was still officially alive.

00:53:24 - What did they want?

00:53:26 - They are all whores.

00:53:28 - I can't go back.

00:53:30 - I have a lot of things pending there.

00:53:34 - Not only the girls.

00:53:36 - Also six years for beating that whore and the escape from jail.

00:53:42 - The robbers and that time with the junkie.

00:53:46 - They will never judge me for that.

00:53:48 - The moco didn't want to pay what he owed.

00:53:52 - I had to pinch his neck a little and beat him well.

00:53:56 - So much fear came in that he jumped out of the car through a window.

00:54:02 - A failure, the windows.

00:54:04 - The last clue about the possible whereabouts of Antonio Anglès Martins reached the Civil Guard through the Internet, a means that had hardly been born in Spain when he fled our country.

00:54:18 - An anonymous communicant from 2000, an email in which he alerted that Anglès was in Buenos Aires.

00:54:26 - He works in a workshop.

00:54:28 - He accompanied to the text a address of the Argentine capital.

00:54:32 - The first visit of some policemen, alerted by the Spanish agents, did not work.

00:54:42 - In those signs, there was no one similar to Anglès.

00:54:46 - But from a Madrid office, he gave the order to check it again.

00:54:50 - Many years have passed since Anglès' escape.

00:54:54 - Thousands of hours of work have been spent by the police and the Civil Guard, also by Interpol and the spy agencies of the whole world.

00:55:04 - Millions of euros in scientific evidence, payments to confidants, collaborators and anyone who could give a clue about his whereabouts.

00:55:14 - Well-used money.

00:55:16 - No politician would dare to protest for it, because Anglès is a wound that still bleeds in Spanish society.

00:55:24 - He was not the first murderer who killed for pleasure, not even the first to kill teenagers.

00:55:30 - But the atrociousness of his crimes and the fact that he is still free, bound to the speaker, sometimes distorted, by the media, in search of audience, in the new man of blood.

00:55:46 - The evil man who, since 1992, taught, with a knife, to a prosperous, democratic and almost modern country, that evil is always very close to us.

00:56:10 - And this is the end of this episode, dedicated to Antonio Anglès, the murderer of the girls of Alcácer.

00:56:20 - I hope you liked it and, as I always say, please, I would like you to follow me through the different media where I publish the podcasts, as well as on my social networks.

00:56:32 - A hug to all and see you next time.
